The octadecenynoic acid, ximenynic acid, is present in quantity in the seed fats of three members of the Santalwn genus: S. acuminatum, S. Murrayanum and S. spicatum. The composition of the fatty acids from the seed fat of S. acuminatum was calculated to be: palmitic acid, 3%; stearic acid, 1%; oleic acid, 50%; linolenic acid, 2%; and ximenynic acid, 44%. The higher ethenoid acids which accompany ximenynic acid in the seed fats of the Ximenia genus, are here either absent, or present only in small amount.
Liquid-vapour equilibrium data are reported for the furfural-water system a t pressures of 6.17, 7.85, and 9.83 kg. per cm.V Under these pressures the system forms a homoazeotropic mixture differing only slightly in composition from the heteroazeotropic mixture formed at normal pressures. The data are checked by the calculation of activity coefficients. Abnormal activity coefficients are found for water in mixtures of high furfural content. The equation 2209 log,, P = ---L7.959
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
