The polarity index, retention index, coefficient ϱ and partial Gibbs function of one mole of a solute methylene group and the Sevcik A criterion were determined at different temperatures for some aromatic hydroxyoximes and intermediate ketones by means of gas‐liquid chromatography using n‐alkanes as nonpolar agents and n‐alcohols as polar agents. The relations between these parameters and the relations between the polarity and the compound structure were discussed.
In the oxime and ketone molecules the polarity of the hydrophilic groups changes in the following order: OH>NOH>O;and OH>CO>O, respectively. The ketones have less polarity than the oximes. The phenolic hydroxyl group has twice the polarity of the oxime and the carbonyl groups. The chlorine atom at the ortho position in relation to the hydroxyl group sharply increases the polarity.
Synthesis of 4‐Alkoxy‐2‐hydroxyphenyl Ketoximes as Reagents for Metal Extraction
The C‐Acylation (Friedel‐Crafts reaction) of resorcinol with aluminium chloride, the monoetherification in 4‐position of the resulting 2,4‐dihydroxyphenylketones, and the preparation of oximes (8, 9, 10, 11) from this ketones were investigated. The compounds obtained are characterized by elemental analysis, and the i.r., u.v. and 1H‐n.m.r. spectra are discussed. Solubility data of some oximes are determined in water, octane and toluene. The extraction properties for copper‐(II)‐and iron‐(III)‐ions are measured by isotope methods in relation to the extragent structure, the extraction time and the pH‐range.
Unter geeigneten Bedingungen setzen sich Mono-hydrazone und Osazone zahlreicher a-Dicarbonyl-Verbindungen rnit Hydrazinhydrat zu Ketazin-bishydrazonen um, die rnit Sauren intensiv rote Farbsalze (IV) bilden. Gemischte 1-Alkyl-bzw. 1-Aryl-phenylhydrazon-2-hydrazone von cc-Dicarbonyl-Verbindungen eignen sich zum Aufbau konjugierter Systeme rnit sechs C=N-Doppelbindungen, die als Basen (VI) orangerot sind und mit Sauren tieferfarbige Salze geben. Chemische und spektroskopische Eigenschaften dieser neuartigen Stoffklasse beweisen, dai3 es sich bei den Farbsalzen um ionare Verbindungen rnit Ladungsresonanz handelt, bei denen die konjugierte C =N-Kette uber die a-N-Atome der Hydrazongruppierungen in mesomerer Wechselwirkung rnit den Arylkernen steht.

Synthesis of 4-Alkoxy-2-hydroxyphenyl Ketoximes as Reagents for Metal Extraction.-Friedel-Crafts acylation of resorcinol (I) with the acyl chlorides (II) forms the 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl ketones (III).
