Liquid Crystalline Phenyl‐trans‐4‐n‐alkylcyclohexanecarboxylates
The syntheses of p‐substituted phenyl‐trans‐4‐n‐alkylcyclohexanecarboxylates 1–12 and cyclohexyl‐p‐n‐alkylbenzoates 15–17 and their mesomorphic properties are described. p‐n‐Alkoxyphenyl‐trans‐4‐n‐alkylcyclohexanecarboxylates 1–8 exhibit larger thermal stability of mesophases than analogous phenylbenzoates 13. Trans‐4‐subst. cyclohexyl‐p‐n‐alkylbenzoates 15–17 and S‐phenyl‐thiocylohexanecarboxylates 19 on the other side are less stable.
1,4-disubstituted cyclohexanes with transconfiguration and the N,N'-disubstituted piperazine system are able to function as a nucleus in liquid crystals. These characteristics are described in the case of nine homologous series (1-9) of corresponding compounds
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
