The new neutron-deficient isotope 216 U was produced in the complete-fusion reaction 180 W( 40 Ar ,4n) 216 U. The evaporation residues were separated from the primary beam in flight by the gas-filled recoil separator Spectrometer for Heavy Atoms and Nuclear Structure. The activities have been identified by the α-α position and time correlation measurements. Two α-decaying states with E α = 8384(30) keV, T 1/2 = 4.72 +4.72 −1.57 ms for the ground state and E α = 10582(30) keV, T 1/2 = 0.74 +1.34 −0.29 ms for an isomeric state were identified in 216 U.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
