This paper reports the results of the development of a self-report measure of innovativeness. The utility of such an instrument in human communication research is discussed, together with issues relating to its reliability, validity, and association with social desirability.A relatively new area in the field of human communication has been the emergence of empirical research by communication scholars relating to the process of the diffusion of innovations.
Communication apprehension was found to be significantly negatively related to both middle-school students' attitudes toward school and final grades. In addition, communication apprehension was found to influence the choice of desired others made by students and their teacher in a classroom communication network. In general, communication apprehensive students were found not to be considered desirable communication choices by their peers.
