The computational analysis of head wear and the deterioration of the reproduced envelope were studied. The flexible tape was modeled as a thin anisotropic shell and the air‐film was treated by the modified Reynolds equation in the finite element method (FEM). Head wear was calculated by assuming an amount of wear which was inversely proportional to the square of the spacing. The reproduced envelope was calculated from the tape‐head spacing on the gap between the inlet site and the outlet side along the drum rotation. Good agreement between the calculation and the measurement was obtained. The transverse direction stiffness of the tape has a dominant effect on the envelope.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
