This study presents the status of the burgeoning global halal market, challenges it faces, and opportunities available for stakeholders. The study is based on primary and secondary research, and found that the US$2.1trillion halal market is projected to reach US $3 trillion by the end of 2023 at a compound annual growth rate of 6.11 per cent. The present market size will more than double if Islamic financing is brought under the ambit of the halal market. Though the uncharted territory has a lot of potential to be tapped, it is also afflicted with multifaceted challenges such asa lack of global consensus (ijama).It is recommended that a harmonized system (HS)code-like mechanism be adopted to capture trade figures of products that conform to halal principles.
This study is an effort for measuring the entrepreneurial orientation of the students and its linkage with their entrepreneurial intention. The study is based on entrepreneurial dimensions such as innovativeness, need for achievements, opportunity recognition, risk-taking propensities, and entrepreneurship education. The study also used entrepreneurship education and gender as moderating variables. A 5-point Likert-type scale was designed by adapting the Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation measurement scale and Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire (EIQ). The authors postulated 7 hypotheses. Data analysis confirmed that underlying entrepreneurial dimensions have a positive correlation with students’ entrepreneurial intention. This paper concludes that entrepreneurial dimensions and proper delivery of entrepreneurship education will help the students in transforming their entrepreneurial intention into actual entrepreneurial action.
This article analyses the causes of low intra-regional trade connections within South Asia, which have remained disappointing despite the long-awaited launch of the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) on 6 January 2004 in Islamabad. Analysis of World Bank data and other relevant sources for the period 1995–2018 shows that trade among SAFTA members has not increased as significantly as had been hoped. The statistical analysis undertaken confirms what was suspected by many observers, as it shows that the SAFTA countries are not actually natural trading partners. Rather they are often competitors, seeking to export the same product groups. Since this makes the prospects of future substantial increase in mutual trade unlikely, the article concludes with some reflections about how to strengthen regional trade support mechanisms.
