Synopsis
The relatively large number of rust‐resistant mutants observed in the N2 coming from N1 plants not isolated in the Aberdeen nursery were not true Markton phenotype and it is suggested they are the result of field hybridization. There were no rust‐resistant mutants in the N2 population grown from isolated N1 plants.
I N A PREVIOUS paper 3 it was pointed out that at Aberdeen, Idaho, oats flower most profusely in midafternoon. It was concluded that "The most favorable time of day for crossing oats at Aberdeen is between 2 and 5 o'clock in the afternoon, at which time blooming is at the maximum." Crossing operations performed at other times of the day usually were less successful.
