This study was designed to investigate how psychological separation and parental attachment are related to career maturity separately and simultaneously and to investigate the influence of gender on the relationships among these variables. Subjects were 82 single white college freshmen from intact families. Data analysis using a canonical correlation analysis revealed that although psychological separation is relevant, parental attachment plays a more important role in career maturity. The relationship among the variables did not differ for men and women. The implications of this study for theory and counseling practice are discussed and recommendations for future research are presented.
Concerns about antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative pathogens are escalating, and accordingly siderophore-based intracellular antibiotic delivery is attracting more attention as an effective means to overcome these infections. Despite the successful clinical translation of this strategy, the delivery potential of siderophores has been limited to periplasm targeting, and this has appreciably restricted the repertoire of applicable antibiotics. To overcome this shortcoming of the current technology, this study focused on investigating the capability of simple bidentate catechol analogs to function as vehicles for cytoplasmic antibiotic delivery. Specifically, by employing trimethoprim, an inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase located in the cytoplasm, as a model antibiotic, a chemical library of chelator-antibiotic conjugates featuring four different catechol analogs was prepared. Then, their various pharmacological properties and antimicrobial activities were evaluated. Analysis of these characterization data led to the identification of the active conjugates exhibiting notable iron-and trimethoprim-dependent potency against Escherichia coli. Further characterization of these hit molecules using E. coli mutant strains revealed that 2,3dihydroxybenzoate could effectively deliver several corresponding conjugates to the cytoplasm by exploiting the siderophore uptake machineries present across the outer and inner membranes, originally designated for the native siderophore of E. coli, enterobactin. Considering the synthetic simplicity, such a catechol analog could have appreciable usage in potentiating cytoplasm-active antibiotics against recalcitrant Gram-negative pathogens.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of parent and peer attachment on school adjustment of 5th and 6th graders. In order to achieve this research purpose, following research questions were established. First, does attachment to parents influence on school adjustment of 5th and 6th graders? Second, does attachment to peers influence on school adjustment of 5th and 6th graders? Third, what are relative influences of parent and peer attachment on school adjustment of 5th and 6th graders? Three hundred eighty nine 5th and 6th graders in Busan participated in this study and completed Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment and School Adjustment Scale. Collected data were analyzed using Two-way ANOVA and η². The major findings of this study were that parent attachment and peer attachment would significantly influence on school adjustment of 5th and 6th graders; Relative influence of Parent attachment and peer attachment would differ depending upon sub-factors of school adjustment. These results were discussed in terms of theoretical and practical implications. Finally, the limitations of this study were commented and suggestions for future research were made.
