The Late Triassic (Norian Bhaetian) carbonate sediments in the Northern Limestone Alps are spread between two large facies of a shelf. To the southeast the Dachsteinkalk-Formation in the Norian and t~haetian shows a thick series of shallow-water limestones, to which reef complexes are marginally annexed. Between the Dachstein-limestones the Hallst~itter Formation was deposited in single, shallow basins, showing limestones and marls of little thickness. The Hauptdolomit Formation, following to the north and to the west, shows a uniform lagoonal development in the Norian, which is differentiated in the Rhaetian by ridges of limestone sedimentation and by basins of marl sedimentation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
