Background: High resolution ultrasonography and colour doppler have become valuable diagnostic modalities for the evaluation of bowel pathology. Study was done to evaluate importance of ultrasound with colour doppler in bowel pathology arising from duodenum to rectum. Materials and Methods: A prospective study of 160 patients was done with bowel pathology during July 2013 to December 2014. The study group consists of patients who presented with clinical signs and symptoms pertaining to pathology arising from the duodenum, small bowel, large bowel and appendages. Detailed history was taken before the sonography examination. Results: In our study, out of 160 patients of bowel lesions, 42 patients (26.2%) were under 32 to 40 years age group. Pain in abdomen was the commonest presentation found in 149 patients (93.1%). Infection and Inflammatory lesions were the commonest bowel pathology detected in 109 patients (68.1%), among them appendicitis & its complication was the commonest pathology followed by abdominal tuberculosis. Neoplasm was 2nd most common pathology which constituted 28 patients (17.5%). The commonest malignant lesion was adenocarcinoma diagnosed in 19 patients (70%). Conclusion: Ultrasonography (USG) is the primary investigation of choice in the patients with pain in abdomen. The use of endosongraphy proved to be essential in detecting and staging rectosigmoid malignancy. Hydrocolon technique and fluid aided sonography also helped in delineating colonic masses. High frequency graded compression sonography proved to be essential in case with acute appendicitis.
In the years, research has revealed that there has been an increase in opportunity of jobs, due to this there has been increase in skilled manpower also. Women have grown dramatically the disparity in wealth between men and women has widened considerably. Women's progress has accelerated since the twentieth century, and in the coming years, with a decent work-life balance, they will surpass males professionally and personally. Women started sharing responsibilities equally with men at work and at home for the betterment of their families, this has been done due to the financial demand of the family, live a stress-free life, and maintain a decent work-life balance. Work-life balance has been proven to be essential for personal fulfillment. Furthermore, as more women enter the workforce, work-life balance has gotten even greater attention. This is because it is critical for women to strike a balance between their career and personal lives.
Background: Dizziness and disequilibrium are common complaints in both general adult and the geriatric population. Dizziness is often used to describe the sensations of vertigo, lightheadedness, imbalance, presyncope, disorientation, and/or gait instability. The cause may be otologic, neurologic, cardiovascular, psychiatric, orthopedic or ophthalmologic. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV) is, by far, the most common cause of episodic vertigo. Materials and M ethods: This study was done in a tertiary care center of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in patients above age of 20 and with BPPV. The purpose of the study was to compare the efficacy of Epley's maneuver with medical therapy versus medical therapy alone in patients of BPPV. Results: A total of 50 patients were divided into two groups: 25 to the group A which received Epley's maneuver with drug therapy and 25 to the group B which received only drug therapy. In our study, Epley's maneuver with medical therapy was found to be more effective than medicine given alone. Conclusion: This study shows that the Epley maneuver with medical therapy provides effective and longterm control of symptoms in patients with BPPV. It benefits over medical therapy alone in terms of avoiding the delay in vestibular compensation and recurrence.
BACKGROUND Ultrasonography (USG) is the first diagnostic procedure to evaluate suspected parotid lesions. USG is capable of differentiating benign and malignant parotid masses. Computed Tomography (CT) is essential for confirmation of diagnosis and preoperative workup in staging of malignancy. Aims and Objectives: 1. To evaluate role of ultrasound and computed tomography in imaging of different parotid gland pathology. 2. To know role of ultrasound and computed tomography imaging in the identification of different parotid gland tumours. MATERIALS AND METHODSA retrospective descriptive study of 80 patients was done. Study group consists of patients with parotid gland enlargement, who underwent ultrasonography with or without CT scan. Patients with normal parotid gland on USG are not included in our study. Out of 80 patients of ultrasonography having parotid gland enlargement, 36 patients underwent CT scan. RESULTSOut of 80 patients, most common pathology was infective or inflammatory origin and 98% sensitivity and specificity was seen. Second most common pathology was benign neoplasm where sensitivity was 88%, while specificity was 84%. 43 patients were found to have infective or inflammatory aetiology. 31 patients had neoplasm, among them, 22 patients had benign masses and 8 patients had primary malignant masses and 1 patient had intraparotid metastatic lymph node. Only 1 patient had congenital vascular pathology. In malignant masses, sensitivity and specificity were 80%. CONCLUSIONUltrasonography is the basic modality for parotid gland pathology and CT scan is the investigation of choice for parotid masses to confirm benign nature by the pattern of vascular enhancement and staging of malignancies of parotid gland. BACKGROUND Parotid gland is the largest salivary gland. It is located in the retromandibular fossa. Parotid gland pathology is divided into congenital, inflammatory, infective, benign and malignant neoplastic masses.Sonography is the first imaging modality for evaluating parotid gland due to portability, easy to use, non-ionising, repeatability, real time dynamic study and less expensive as well as for follow-up comparison over and above role in Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC).
