In this in vitro study Nd:YAG laser treatment of Trichophyton rubrum colonies failed to inhibit fungal growth. Nevertheless there might be an effectiveness in vivo which has to be clarified by clinical studies.
These results suggest that treatment of onychomycosis with the Nd:YAG laser without removing mycotic nail material can lead to a temporary clinical improvement, a reduction of positive fungal cultures and an improvement of the Onychomycosis Severity Index. The treatment regimen should be optimized to be used as an effective antimycotic monotherapy.
Concomitant CAD is common in patients with dCMP. Clinical predictors of its presence are largely coincident with classic risk factors in the general population. The presence of concomitant CAD appears not to be associated with adverse prognosis (morbidity or mortality) in patients with dCMP.
