In this retrospective case control investigation, 51 pregnant patients who were diagnosed by ultrasound with uterine myomas were compared to 102 randomly selected control patients to determine if the ultrasound diagnosis of one or more leiomyoma is associated with increased untoward pregnancy outcomes compared to controls. Women with uterine myomas were older (p = 0.001), more likely to be African American (p = 0.001), and undergo Caesarean delivery (p = 0.03) than controls. However, when women who underwent abdominal delivery for previous myomectomy (n = 5) were excluded from analysis, there was no significant difference in the incidence of Caesarean delivery. Overall, there was no difference in the incidence of obstetric complications between groups even when the data was stratified for large and/or multiple leiomyomas. The discovery of uterine leiomyomas by gestational ultrasound does not appear to place the patient at increased risk for preterm labour, early delivery, or other untoward pregnancy outcomes.
DNA encoding ricin B chain was derived from preproricin genomic DNA and ligated into the baculovirus transfer vector, pAcGP67A. Co-transfection of Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 cells with BaculoGold DNA was followed by limiting dilution purification of recombinant baculovirus. Infection of SF9 cells at a multiplicity of infection of 1 in the presence of 25 mM lactose produced 3 mg/l of soluble, glycosylated, 34 kDa protein immunoreactive with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to ricin B chain. The recombinant ricin B chain had similar lectin-binding activity to plant ricin B chain. The recombinant protein reassociated with ricin toxin A chain similarly to ricin toxin B chain and the recombinant heterodimers had similar cell cytotoxicity to ricin.
40% sulfur and samples 2 and 3 were sulfur-free. Synthetic samples were made by mixing weighed amounts of p.p '-DDT, a-BHC, 7-BHC, sulfur, and talc. These were then extracted and analyzed. The results of single determinations are shown in Table II. The average errors for y-BHC and for p.p '-DDT were again nearly equal and were slightly less than ±0.05%.The band of DDT at 9.8 microns was selected because it is a strong absorption band, it is well isolated, and it is produced by both the para-para' isomer and the ortho-para' isomer. The presence of o.p'-DDT may be detected by the absorption band at 12.3 microns. If this
