AbstrakThis research is conducted in order to improve students’ writing ability by using intensive reading at tenth grade of SMAN 14 Kabupaten Tangerang. In conducting this research the writer used qualitative descriptive as the method of the research. In this research used purposive sampling with the sample was 36 participants. To collect and analyzed the data, the writer used the information from observation, students’ writing test and interview. The result of observation and interview in this research showed that intensive reading can improve students’ writing ability on descriptive text. The result also supported by students’ writing test. It can be seen from students’ pre-test and post-test. The average score of pre-test was 30.1 or 35% and the average score of post-test was 55.4 or 65% of 36 students. The average score of post-test showed higher with increase score 25.3 or 30% of 36 students than their pre-test. It means intensive reading can improve students’ writing ability especially on descriptive text. From the result, the writer concluded that teaching writing descriptive text using intensive reading at tenth grade of SMAN 14 Kabupaten Tangerang can improve their writing ability. For the teachers and the further researchers, it is recommended that to implement this method in English classroom to improve students’ writing skill.Kata Kunci: descriptive text, intensive reading, writing ability
This article aimed to analyze the student learning experiences during the pandemic at Universitas Islam Syekh-Yusuf Tangerang. The researchers used a qualitative method. The collecting data used interviews and observation. Interview conducted on several lecturers and academics to get data analysis. Then examined the results of the interviews to get the essence and data findings that could answer the problems of this study and hypotheses. Based on data analysis the researchers concluded that the digital or technology-based learning experience during the remote learning period in response to the pandemic has indicated that learning was exciting because either lecturers and students have established very synergistic collaborations to produce learning quality that was as expected. The study's purpose was to clarify how the peer-assisted learning method (PALS) affected students' reading comprehension in order to increase their engagement in text discussion and increase their motivation to read. The result showe that s Students' knowledge of daily life and the environment was increased. The 253 students in the entire 10th grade courses at SMAN 14 Kota Tangerang made up the study's sample population. Then, using random sampling, 72 students were chosen as the research's sample. Peer Assisted Learning Strategy (PALS) as a variable X and short answer test students' reading comprehension as a variable Y were used to collect the data. Pre- and post-test data were collected. While the control class scored 28.64 with a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 47, the experimental class's PALS score was 38.44, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 57. The results of the Mann-Whitney U Test's calculation of the null hypothesis can be seen; the value in the control class was lower than the t-table with a value of 0.0650.05, while the value in the experiment class was higher with a value of 0.109>0.05. Given that Ha was approved and Ho was refused, it can be said that the Peer Assisted Learning Strategy (PALS) has a considerable impact on students' reading comprehension in the 10th grade of SMAN 14 Kota Tangerang.
English essay writing is a skill that university students should develop. However, many students find it difficult to acquire that skill. Technology provides many advantages in teaching and learning process, not to mention to help students develop their writing skill. Andy English is one of application like instant messangers, but the users can do conversation or chatting with robot. The aim of this research was to know the effect of Andy English Application in improving students’ writing skill. This research was conducted for 2nd semester students of Economic Education at University of Islamic Syekh Yusuf. This study was quantitative research with a pre-experimental design one group pre-test and post-test. There were 12 students as a sample. The data collected by the pre test, treatment and post test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result shows that Asymp.sig (2 tailed) is less than α (0.000 < 0.05), it means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. By calculating the data it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of applying Andy English apps in improving students’ writing skill. Andy English apps also can improve students’ vocabulary and develop self-confident in their writing skill. So it is recommended for the teacher to overcome any problems in learning English especially in writing.
