Delamanid was associated with an increase in sputum-culture conversion at 2 months among patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. This finding suggests that delamanid could enhance treatment options for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. There was a constant and steady increase of nontuberculous mycobacteriosis-related mortality in Japan, and this mortality rate showed significant geographical variation. The prevalence of environmental mycobacterial disease in Japan is higher than reported in most other countries.

This test is considered a promising diagnostic tool for TB, even for peripheral laboratories with limited equipment, such as those in developing countries.
