The extraordinary of geodiversity together with the ecological resources and profound cultural heritages provide a valuable basic of geotourism and geopark development. The purpose of this paper is to show the possibilities of geological interpretation, geotourism, and cultural heritages in the area of Gorontalo province that would become valuable basic to promote geopark. The collected data was carried out by field observation and literature review. The results of this study indicate that the Gorontalo has the potential of geopark and would serve as tourist destination in Sulawesi by applying the concept of Geotourism which accentuate natural side, by optimizing the management of destination attractions, facilities and services, and accessibilities.
Framboidal pyrite in mudstone is known to be a reservoir of arsenic, yet few studies have conducted quantitative analyses of framboidal pyrite with ppm -level sensitivity. In this study, we used micro -PIXE to measure the concentrations of heavy metals in framboidal pyrite from drill -core samples of mudstone from the Late Cretaceous Hakobuchi Group, central Hokkaido, Japan. Pyrite framboids that occur in polyframboids can be divided into two types based on framboid diameter (D) and the average diameter of microcrystals within framboids (d): type 1, being relatively small grains; and type 2, being relatively large grains. Higher concentrations of �s are Higher concentrations of �s are Higher concentrations of �s are observed in most type 2 framboids than in type 1 framboids. High concentrations of Pb generally occur as isolated islands within type 1 framboids, concentrated along the rims of polyframboids. It could be concluded that contrasting formation processes among different framboids led to the observed changes in heavy metal concentrations.
Pyrite framboid in sedimentary rocks could be concerned with arsenic contamination in groundwater of acidic environment and has been studied for the formation process of its unique morphology. However, little has been discussed about the formation process based on heavy-metal distribution in pyrite framboids and their aggregates. To reveal the formation process of pyrite framboids and their aggregates, mudstone from the Late Cretaceous Hakobuchi Group, central Hokkaido, Japan, are investigated for mode, petrographical, mineralogical, and micro-PIXE (particle-induced x-ray emission) analysis in this study. Spherical and sub-spherical pyrite framboids observed in polyframboids can be divided into two types based on diameter of framboids (D) and the average diameter of microcrystals (d) within framboids: type 1, ranging from 2 to 9 μm and from 0.4 to 0.9 μm, respectively, and type 2, ranging from 8 to 50 μm and from 0.5 to 1.8 μm, respectively. Based on the quantitative traverse analyses and 2-D elemental mapping results by micro-PIXE, heterogeneities in the concentrations of heavy metals within the analyzed aggregations of pyrite are exhibited. On the basis of the As and Pb zoning patterns, the time range and chronological stages of pyrite-aggregation growth are revealed.
The Tanjung Kramat area is one of the areas on the southern coast of Gorontalo which is polluted by plastic waste. Activities are needed to increase public knowledge. The purpose of community service is to socialize the dangers of plastic waste to health and the environment and to carry out an action program to clean up the coastal and marine environment. Methods are identification and survey, socialization, and action program. The results show that through socialization and action programs there is a change in mindset and attitude patterns in the community. The community admitted that they only got knowledge about plastic waste during socialization activities. People expressed concern about the dangers of plastic waste. In the community action program, they no longer burn plastic waste. The community said that they could reduce the use of plastic waste, for example by replacing plastic shopping bags with shopping bags made of woven rattan. This community service is the first step for reducing the use of plastic waste in the Tanjung Kramat area.
