This is largely caused by the lack of sufficient investigation and analyses on the respective pregnancy and perinatal outcomes by different regimens. This study aimed to compare both pregnancy and perinatal outcomes between the modified natural and artificial cycles in vitrified-thawed day three embryo transfer for women with regular menstruation. A total of 1,482 vitrified-thawed day three embryo transfer cycles were reviewed including 427 modified natural cycles (NC), 132 ovulation induction cycles (OC), 794 artificial cycles (AC), and 129 GnRH agonist artificial cycles (GAC). The primary outcome that was evaluated was live birth rate. The NC regimen demonstrated a higher rate of ongoing pregnancy (43.8% vs. 30.2%, P = 0.002) and a lower rate of late abortion (2.8% vs. 14.0%, P = 0.003) than the GAC regimen as well as a higher implantation rate (31.9% vs. 27.1%, P = 0.008) and live birth rate (43.1% vs. 34.1%, P = 0.002) than the AC regimen. A significantly higher peak endometrial thickness before transfer was observed in patients using the NC and GAC regimens (10.0 ± 1.7, 9.9 ± 2.4) compared to the AC regimens (9.2 ± 1.5, P = 0.000). Multivariate logistic regression showed that the NC protocol was associated with a higher live birth rate. There were no significant differences in rates of pregnancy complications, neonatal mortality, birth defects, mean birth weight, and other perinatal outcomes among the regimens. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique, a series of biomarkers were identified, including n-alkanes, n-alkane-2-ones, isoprenoid etc. from the loess-paleosol samples collected from the S4 and adjacent L5, L4 of the Luochuan loess section, Northwestern China. Based on these data, especially n-alkanes and high-resolution magnetic susceptibility and grain size data, the paleoenvironment and paleovegetation history during S4 was reconstructed. The CPI (Carbon Predominance Index) and correlation between n-alkanes and magnetic susceptibility and grain size data demonstrated that the molecular fossils in paleosol and loess layers can reflect the vegetation condition during the loess-paleosol formation, if the allochthonous organic inputs could be excluded reasonably. The ACL (average chain length) index is correlated well with paleomagnetic susceptibility and grain size variations, displaying their good synchrony with warm and humid climate. However, it relatively lagged behind the paleomagnetic susceptibility and the grain size variations when the climate began to deteriorate. During the formation period of paleosol, the n-alkanes was dominated by C 31 homologue, indicating that the primary organic input originated from herbs. Our study also demonstrated that the herbs were more flourish than wood plants in Loess Plateau, especially in the Luochuan area during the warm and humid phase, and there was no typical forest vegetation developed in the studied period. paleoenvironment Paleosol S4, Luochuan loess section, biomarker, paleovegetationBiomarker is a compound that could indicate the biologic origin of organic matters. These works demonstrated the reliability of the biomarker research in the paleoclimate, paleoenvironment and paleovegetation and it could play an important role in tracking the environmental variation at molecular level.The loess is widely distributed in the Northwestern China and has served as one of the best archives for paleoenvironment reconstruction. Together with deep sea sediments and ice core studies, they were considered mainstays of the global changes [17] and great achievements have been documented in the recent decades [18][19][20][21][22] .
Shell bar, composed of abundant fossil shells of Corbicula fluminea mü ller and Corbicula largillierti philippi and located at the southeastern end (36u309N, 96u129E) of the paleolake Qarhan, is one of the most prominent features in the Qaidam basin. It is the highest site where such species of fossil shells have been found in the Late Pleistocene age. A 2.6-m-thick fresh profile was manually excavated to determine the formation ages and the scope of the high paleolake levels. Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), conventional radiocarbon dating, and sector inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy 230 Th methods were used to investigate the reliability and accuracy of dating results in different laboratories. Ages of various components (e.g. acid residual and acid soluble fraction of the organic matter) from the same sample were determined. Age differences of a variety of materials (e.g. organic matter, fossil shells, and salt crystals), and age differences at the same sampling position were evaluated. Dating shows that the AMS ages given by alkali residue and acid soluble fractions vary greatly, e.g., from 124.5 cm upwards. The dates given by the acid soluble fraction were normal. Down the column, the dates show a reverse pattern and those of alkali residues, especially the lower part of the section, show an unstable pattern. These imply that organic matter had been influenced by two separate processes. One possible explanation is that the alkali residual fraction most likely had been contaminated by dead carbon-bearing reworked material because the study section is located near the edge of the paleolake and could have been easily influenced by old eroded deposits. Another is that the acid soluble fraction could have been contaminated by upward-flowing groundwater containing soluble organic matter. The amount of this soluble organic material should be very small because the strongest age reversal is in the lower part, where the TOC content remains low, meaning that the change of soluble organic fraction alters neither TOC content nor the d 13 C dramatically. It is concluded that a uniform mega-paleolake developed in the Qaidam basin in the northeastern Tibetan plateau between 39.7 and 17.5 14 C kaB.P. During the period when the high paleolake level of Qarhan was formed, the huge paleolake covered a vast area with dramatic lake level fluctuations. It is found that the ages determined may be influenced by either radioactive 14 C variations of repeated deposition or content variations in the atmosphere. The ages given by fossil shells are 15-18 ka older than those given by organic matter. The large differences between the ages of fossil shells and organic matter might have resulted from the large water areas and huge water volume and the special location of the high-elevation Qaidam basin. Background Women with vanishing twin syndrome are associated with increased risks of adverse neonatal outcomes, such as preterm birth (PTB) and low birthweight (LBW), compared with those in singleton live births following single embryo transfer (SET) in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Methods Anonymized data on all cycles performed in China were obtained from the Reproductive Medicine Department at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, which had involved 127597 cycles following double embryos transfer (DET), including 54585 fresh embryos transfer (ET) cycles and 73012 frozen embryos transfer (FET) cycles. In addition, the obstetric outcomes, such as gestation age, PTB, small for gestation age (SGA), birthweight (BW), LBW, congenital malformation, pediatric admission and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admission in the fresh ET and FET cycles, were analyzed. Moreover, logistic regression analysis was performed to adjust the confounders, including age of women, body weight index (BMI), value of AMH, infertile years, current cycle, antral follicles, cause of infertility, number of oocytes retrieved, endometrial thickness at the date of transplantation, number of high-quality embryos, and embryo stage. Results In the fresh ET cycles, the BW and gestational age in study group were lower than those in control group, which were (2962.4 ± 563.1vs. 3104.9 ± 498. 5, p = 0.000) and (262.8 ± 8.4 vs. 268.9 ± 13.9, p = 0.000), respectively. Relative to control group, the study group was linked with increased risks of PTB (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 2.45, 95% CI:1.98–3.03, adjusted p = 0.000), LBW (aOR2.11, 95% CI:1.67–2.65, adjusted p = 0.000), pediatric admission (aOR 2.55, 95% CI2.07–3.13, adjusted p = 0.000), and NICU admission (aOR 1.98, 95% CI1.32–2.96, adjusted p = 0.001), but there were no statistically significant differences in the risks of SGA (aOR 1.09, 95% CI0.82–1.45, adjusted p = 0.960) and congenital malformation (aOR 0.94, 95% CI0.53–1.68, adjusted p = 0.640) between the two groups. In the FET cycles, the gestational age and BW in study group were lower than those in control group, which were (263.0 ± 15.7vs. 273.0 ± 10.5, p = 0.000) and (3099 ± 662.1vs. 3352 ± 671.5), respectively.
