Bio-economic farm models are tools to evaluate ex-post or to assess ex-ante the impact of policy and technology change on agriculture, economics and environment. Recently, various BEFMs have been developed, often for one purpose or location, but hardly any of these models are re-used later for other purposes or locations. The Farm System Simulator (FSSIM) provides a generic framework enabling the application of BEFMs under various situations and for different purposes (generating supply response functions and detailed regional or farm type assessments). FSSIM is set up as a component-based framework with components representing farmer objectives, risk, calibration, policies, current activities, alternative activities and different types of activities (e.g., annual and perennial cropping and livestock). The generic nature of FSSIM is evaluated using five criteria by examining its applications. FSSIM has been applied for different climate zones and soil types (criterion 1) and to a range of different farm types (criterion 2) with different specializations, intensities and sizes. In most applications FSSIM has been used to assess the effects of policy changes and in two applications to assess the impact of technological innovations (criterion 3). In the various applications, different data sources, level of detail (e.g., criterion 4) and model configurations have been used. FSSIM has been linked to an economic and several biophysical models (criterion 5). The model is available for applications to other conditions and research issues, and it is open to be further tested and to be extended with new components, indicators or linkages to other models.
Based on a survey implemented in a county in central China, the researchers found it is common for women to experience gender-based violence, especially violence at the hands of intimate partners. About half of men surveyed reported inflicting physical or sexual violence on their female partners. One in five men reported having raped a partner or non-partner woman. The physical, mental and reproductive health of the female and male respondents were found to be significantly associated with women's victimization and men's perpetration of intimate partner violence. Gender-based violence, including intimate partner violence, is a construction of the social-ecological system. Four elements that are key to hegemonic masculinity are identified: male decision-making, male reputation, violence and heterosexuality. By positing the four elements as standards that define a "real man", the domination of men over women is naturalized and legitimized. It is necessary to foster other nonviolent and more equitable masculinities.
Metal halide perovskite solar cells based on all-inorganic CsPbBr 3 have attracted considerable attentions recently, due to their high open-circuit voltage and good stability. However, the fabrication of CsPbBr 3 film is limited by the poor solubility of cesium precursors in organic solvents by the one-step method. Here, we successfully fabricated CsPbBr 3 film solar cells by employing colloid nanocrystal. The effects of technique parameters, including purification times, anneal temperatures, and spin-coating times on film morphology, optical spectra, and device performance are investigated in detail. The highest power conversion efficiency of 4.57% has been achieved based on a large open-circuit voltage of 1.45 V and a large short-circuit current of 9.41 mA cm −2. A large open-circuit voltage results from the reduced non-radiative energy loss channels and defect states while a large short-circuit current is related to the high conductivity induced by the removal of organic ligands with the increased nanocrystal electronic coupling. Furthermore, excellent stability in air is disclosed on the unencapsulated device suggesting the enormous potential for developing high open-circuit photovoltaic devices with high stability in future.
