-017Formation, Structure and Magnetic Properties of (Er1-xYx)2Fe17C2.-Samples of the title series with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0 are prepared by melt spinning of arc-melted (Er1-xYx)2Fe17C2 alloys which have a two-phase structure consisting of rhombohedral Th2Zn17-type and predominant α-Fe phases. Melt spinning at 10-20m s-1 quenching rates results in a single phase Th2Zn17-type structure. Substitution of Y for Fe in Er2Fe17C2 causes small changes in the unit cell volumes and has a small influence on the Curie temperature. The saturation magnetization at 1.5 K increases with increasing Y concentration while the Fe magnetic moment remains almost constant as x increases from 0 to 1.0. A monotonic decrease in the spin reorientation temperature with increasing Y concentration is due to a decrease of the uniaxial anisotropy of the Er sublattice. - (SHEN, B.-G.; CAO, L.; GUO, H.-Q.; ZHANG, J.-X.; KONG, L.-S.; GONG, H.-Y.; CHENG, Z.-H.; J.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
