A plastic diffuser with high-aspect-ratio surface profile for application of LCD backlighting is proposed. It can diffuse light uniformly into wider angle than that from a conventional bead-embedded diffuser. The diffusion power of the proposed diffuser and the fabrication processes are also presented.
A LED direct backlight system with ultra‐thin thickness by employing side emitting LEDs is proposed. The lens cap on the LEDs is with metal reflection coating to re‐direct the light to emit from the side of LED. Prior to this method, the light mixing cavity of a LED Backlight module is thicker than 50mm for obtaining uniform illumination. By using the proposed LED package, a 30mm thick light mixing cavity of a 32″ LED backlight is realized. The simulation and experiment of the illumination performance are also demonstrated.
