Overall, conventional echocardiography can detect some differences between young athletes with eccentric and concentric type of athlete's heart but it is incapable of revealing differences in intrinsic myocardial functions. However, analysis using STE demonstrated increased systolic functions in athletes commensurate with increased load, with unaltered diastolic functions.
A 23-year-old man had been coughing with hemoptysis, and had received tuberculostatic medication for four months without any benefit. Upon referral, two-dimensional echocardiography showed a cystic mass located in the anterior right-ventricular wall, without any protrusion into the ventricular cavity. CT examination revealed three cysts in the lung fields bilaterally, additionally a multilocular cystic image in the right-ventricular wall was observed. All components of hydatid cysts in the heart and lungs were removed in the same session by median sternotomy. Extracorporeal bypass was used in this operation.
The TDI method may detect the LAA systolic dysfunctions, which cannot be detected using classical methods, on tissue level in patients with mitral regurgitation. In addition, the deterioration of the LAA functions at tissue level in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis was also detected.
Atrial appendage aneurysms are extremely rare entities in cardiology practice. There are reports of solitary left and right atrial appendage aneurysms in the literature. A case of biatrial appendages aneurysms is reported here. This is the first report of such an anomaly.
