To analyze the presence of microbes in organic farm produce, green chillies, lettuce, tomatoes, apples, pears, and rice were collected at 47 production sites with organic and conventional produce. Total average bacterial counts of 4.07 log CFU/g in organic green chillies, 3.71 log CFU/g in conventional green chillies, and 6.76-6.90 log CFU/g in the both lettuce were detected. Mean bacterial counts of 4.48 log CFU/g and 2.84 log CFU/g were detected in organic and conventional pear produce, respectively. Differences in bacterial counts in tomatoes, apples, and rice in organic and conventional produce were less pronounced. Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., and Staphylococcus aureus were not detected in any produce sample. However, Bacillus cereus was detected with average counts of 1.04 log CFU/g in 11/47 (23%) conventional produce samples and 1.97 log CFU/g in 6/ 47 (13%) organic produce samples. Therefore, organic and conventional produce showed similar microbial prevalence patterns, and comparable safety in terms of pathogen contamination.
This study examines commercial gentrification, focusing on areas where commercial gentrification occurred or was expected to occur in Seoul, Korea. To identify the general phases of commercial gentrification, we used data collected from January 2015 to January 2019 by cluster analysis. Cluster analysis was conducted with a ratio of terms including “birth”, “replacement”, and “vacancy”, and characteristics including the “homogenization index”, “chain stores”, “vitalization”, and the “front width of stores” were applied. The contributions of this study are as follows. Three clusters were formed and supplemented according to differing types of industry change. Cluster 1 represents a stage where commerce has begun to penetrate residential areas, and it can be seen that gentrification has just started. Cluster 2 is more commercialized than Cluster 1, but characteristics remain in the vicinity of neighborhood commercial facilities. Cluster 3 describes a phase of full vitalization, characterized by franchise stores. The implications of this study are as follows. Commercial gentrification is proven to have distinctly different stages of commercial characterization that can be interpreted and observed sequentially, thereby requiring a differentiated approach to commercial gentrification by phase.
Atmospheric pressure (AP) plasma provides an alternative approach to low-cost thin-film deposition. The low throughput of epitaxial growth, which limits productivity in semiconductor manufacturing, can be addressed by using AP plasma. In principle, AP plasma does no damage and enables local heating of the deposition surface. In Si epitaxial growth using AP plasma, hydrogen incorporation and quiescent gas flow are shown to be key factors controlling epitaxial growth even under a high environmental impurity flux and at a low substrate temperature of 150℃. Quiescent plasma at AP is promising for future epitaxial processing owing to its low cost and high productivity.
