Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) is providing precision approach and landing service with aircraft around airport. FAA granted System Design Approval (SDA) of SLS-4000 to Honeywell as the first GBAS category I system on September 2009. Since then, according to their own kind of approval process including System Design Approval, Facility Approval and Operational Approval, USA, Germany, Spain and Australia have approved GBAS category I system which are installed in some airports in order to provide commercial GBAS service. Recently, KARI has also installed GBAS category I system into Gimpo international airport to establish operational technology of GBAS domestically and to validate effectiveness of GBAS system in Korea. This paper introduces overseas trends and activities regarding approval process of GBAS system and presents approval process and criteria appropriate for future commercial operation of GBAS in Korea.
In this paper, we proposed a algorithm and an operation boundary for fault detection of a onboard GNSS receiver. After aircraft exchange corrections computed by an aircraft receiver, a faulty aircraft receiver is detected by checking consistency of correction. For this purpose, PRC residual is used as the test statistic for fault detection of the onboard GNSS receiver. And operation boundaries are set by using DGPS position error increase with respect to the distance from a reference station. If the fault detection is performed by using aircraft only in operation boundary, the more accurate fault detection can be possible.
After the GBAS ground system installing at the airport, a GBAS ground and flight testing must be conducted to verify functionality and performance of the system. Since Korea has no experience of the GBAS ground system installation, GBAS test and evaluation methods have never been studied so far. Therefore this paper analyzes the test items and methods for the GBAS ground and flight testing based on ICAO documents, FAA flight inspection manual and testing reports of other countries. As a result of the analysis, this paper proposes the GBAS ground and flight testing items in korea, also describes the flight procedures for the GBAS flight testing.
