Effect of A (1,3) -cis Strain on the Asymmetric Epoxidation of (E)and (Z)-6,6-Diethoxy-3-hexen-2-ols and 4-Methyl-6,6-diethoxy-3hexen-2-ols.-The asymmetric epoxidation of the Me-substituted title compounds (VIII) or (IX) affords a mixture of the erythro (X) and threo epoxides (XI) or only the threo epoxide (XII). In contrast, earlier studies obtained with analogous compounds lacking the methyl group afford the erythro epoxide with the E isomer and a mixture of erythro and threo epoxides with the Z isomer. -(NIKITENKO, A.
