A kinetic factor is used to describe soil phosphate status. It is supplementary to capacity and intensity factors which are essentially static factors.The rate of release of phosphate ions from the soil solid phase was measured by the use of an anion exchange resin and a numerical parameter assigned to the release rate. A highly significant correlation was found between this parameter and the uptake of phosphate by ryegrass from a wide range of soils.
