Films of the polymer semiconductor polyacetylene, (CH),, and powders of the polymer semiconductor poly-($-phenylene), (9-C6H4)%, when treated with FeCl, (dissolved in dry nitromethane), are converted into organic metals which exhibit high p-type conductivity due to the oxidation of the n-system of the polymers, with the concomitant complete reduction of FeS+ to Fez+, as evidenced by Mossbauer spectroscopy.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
