The reaction of dihydrohalogen polymerization was suggested by the authors as a method for the preparation of polymers with conjugated double bonds on the basis of α,β‐dihalogen derivatives, oxides, and hydroxides. The reaction was carried out in an autoclave a t 200°C.; the reaction time was 6 hr. Polymers, obtained from α,β‐dibromopropylnitrile, α,β‐dibromopropyl alcohol, and α,β‐dibromoethylbutyl ether, are black and brown powders soluble in concentrated acids. The polymers show a sharp peak in EPR‐spectra characteristic of polyconjugated systems with concentration of paramagnetic particles of 1017–1019/g. The infrared spectra have characteristic absorption bands peculiar to polyconjugated systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
