<p style="text-align: justify;">Jatropha curcas twigs are part of the Jatropha curcas which can be utilized as herbal treatment by the community to overcome the vaginal discharge problem. Vaginal discharge is a common symptom experienced by most women caused by Candida albicans infection. This research used the true experiment with posttest only control design which aimed to know the content of phytochemistry and antifungal potential of Jatropha curcas twigs extract on Candida albicans growth. Extract of Jatropha curcas in this study was obtained through a solvent extraction process using ethanol 96% by the method of maceration. The method used for the phytochemistry test was a qualitative method, while for the antifungal potential test was done by diffusion method with the concentration of 10%, 25%, 30%, 40% and 50%. The results of Phytochemistry test showed that Jatropha curcas twigs extracts are saponins, tannins, and flavonoids, but no alkaloid compounds were found, however a test result of the antifungal potential test showed that the average diameter of inhibition zone of Candida albicans growth is 0 mm. The conclusion of this study is Jatropha curcas twigs extracts can not inhibit Candida albicans growth, For other researchers which use jatropha curcas twigs, are suggested to do a phytochemical test quantitatively and to test the antifungal potential with dilution method.
Jamu kunyit is one of the traditional medicine that is believed to cure some diseases and very popular by the community. Jamu kunyit can be reduced in quality if there were mold, yeast, and the presence of Aspergillus sp. The purpose of this study is to determine the number of mold yeast, and identify Aspergillus sp. on jamu kunyit that sold in Denpasar Selatan. This study was descriptive by using cluster sampling technique. Jamu kunyit were cultured on SDA media, and the growing colonies were calculated to determine the value of the number mold and yeast. From the number a mold and yeast examination, there were 8 samples of jamu kunyit that exceeded standard (35%) and 15 samples of jamu kunyit in normal range (65%), 2 samples of jamu kunyit showed positive Aspergillus sp. and 21 samples of jamu kunyit negative Aspergillus sp. the type of Aspergillus found is Aspergillus niger. Many factors that can cause mold and yeast contamination are packaging, production, and storage.Keyword : Jamu kunyit, the number of mold yeast, Aspergillus sp.
Prevention by utilizing medicinal plants can be used as an alternative treatment. This study aims to identify active antimicrobial substances and test the antimicrobial potential of traditional Balinese spices, namely Basa Selem, Basa Gede, Basa Wangen, Basa Bawang Jahe, and Basa Rajang against Salmonella sp bacteria in vitro. The True-experimental method with Posttest only-control design was used in this study, by intervening in the treatment group as well as the presence of positive and negative controls. The maceration method with 96% EtOH solvent was used to extract active substances and identify the levels of antimicrobial active substances. The TLC Spectrophotodensitometer instrument and the diffusion method (discs) were used to test antimicrobial potential. Data analysis was performed using the one-way ANOVA test. All five samples showed flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and phenols in qualitative tests. Based on quantitative test results of five samples, the highest compound content obtained in Basa Wangen (6.66 mg/ml of tannins), Basa Gede (3.74 mg/ml of flavonoids), Basa Bawang Jahe (2.49 mg/ml of tannins), Basa Selem (2.87 mg/ml of tannin), and Basa Rajang (6.96 mg/ml of flavonoids). There are differences in the antimicrobial potential of various types of traditional Balinese spices against the growth of Salmonella sp in vitro (sig = 0.037). The traditional Balinese spices have the antimicrobial potential of the intermediate category with a range of inhibition (16-20 mm) based on the NCCLS standard.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
