Regional transformation is an unavoidable process in regional growth and development. The transformation process is strongly influenced by various factors, directly or indirectly. Changes in land use have an impact on the attractiveness that gives rise to new activities and changes in activities will have an impact on changes in land use or use. Based on the analysis of land cover and changes in population concentration using the NDBI satellite image processing approach, it is known that in the last 10 years there have been considerable changes in Kulon Progo Regency. In 2011 the dominance of land for fields, plantations, and forests was still quite high. Five years later, in 2016 there was a significant change in paddy fields, especially in coastal areas. Residential activities appear to have begun to develop, concentrated in Wates Urban Area and Sentolo-Nanggulan corridor. In 2021 there will be significant changes in the coastal area, several years after the construction and operation of Yogyakarta International Airport. The transformation process is still ongoing, it is necessary to anticipate in the future management of the area, especially when it is associated with the potential for disaster risk in certain parts of the region.
