Since the strikes of globalization, Indonesian seemed to enjoy foreign food rather than traditional food. The reasons were the concept of foreign food suits the lifestyle of nowadays people, attractive branding, unique promotion, and interior design. Bandung was the capital city of West Java Province. It was one of many cities in Indonesia that attracted local and international tourists through nature, shopping, and culinary experience. This research aimed to face the rapid growth of foreign restaurants. Bandung needed a place as the center of the traditional culinary of West Java to keep the existence of traditional culinary. This research used the comparative study, observation, and literature study. It finds that Pusat Wisata Kuliner Jawa Barat is a place to get information about the culinary of West Java and culinary tourism, which has an information center, restaurant, and merchandise shop. The interior will be designed by presenting the value of traditional culinary in West Java in a modern style.
This research aimed to explore the concept of sustainable urban escape through the lens of gentrification as a tipping point for adaptive reuse. The chaotic backdrop of a fast-paced city addresses a research gap at the intersection of urban culture and interior architecture design. This study revealed how the historical narrative could serve as the foundation for a concept of sustainable urban escape —gentrification, as a subset of adaptive reuse by reclaiming the glory of the past. To strengthen the basis of this industry, President Joko Widodo established a new non-ministerial institution called IACE (Indonesian Agency of Creative Economy)/BEKRAF. One of IACE’s missions was to open insight and appreciate everything related to the creative economy. It could be done by establishing a library. Under the IACE license, the library was set up to acknowledge and value all aspects of the creative industry itself. However, some of Indonesia’s libraries were lack of concerning design standards, customer needs, and aesthetical aspects. Therefore, those problems will be solved through design by doing this research. This research used a design thinking action research approach suitable to determine design objectives because it combined two kinds of thinking; analysis and creativity. By using that method, this research could solve any problems related to all libraries in Indonesia. In order to be accessible by people, public space should be created. This is done so that the library of art, design and creative industries can function optimally. The educational process that takes place in it can run well, and become a comfortable educational home for its users.
This research aimed to introduce the Tale Museum to improve the attraction of Indonesian tales in the eyes of Indonesian children. As an archipelago country, Indonesia had various tales from each region that was known had high culture and moral values in it. In the middle of the rapid globalization, the Indonesian tale losing its popularity compared to the foreign tale. This research was conducted to add data needed to support design. It was conducted with qualitative methods that produce descriptive and analytical data. The data generated consisted of two types of data, namely primary data and secondary data. It is found that the museum is designed according to the story that displays the interactive concept and using the latest technology. This new design provides a new experience for visitors to enjoy Indonesian tales without reducing the value contained in the tales.
Kota Tua Jakarta is a Dutch colonial heritage that has to be a part of tourism in Jakarta with Dutch architecture characteristics. It has been protected in Ali Sadikin’s government era in 1972. However, many buildings were abandoned and recently held a revitalization after Basuki Tjahaya Purnama’s government era in 2016. This research aimed to give the insight to revitalize old buildings in this area, and one of them was the Kerta Niaga boutique hotel. This research was a qualitative method by using primary data and secondary data. It finds that the revitalization of the Kerta Niaga Boutique Hotel is by planning adaptive re-use with the additional public facility of the coffee shop. It aims to attract tourists to Kota Tua, and to re-introduce Batavia’s ambiance through the Hotel’s interior design.
