The influence of exploitation and abandonment of coal mines of the mining complex of Lviv-Volyn coal basin on the ecosystem of the region is considered. The main ecological problems of the territory are analyzed. It is established that the high technogenic pollution of the Chervonograd geological and industrial region is facilitated by the inflow of highly polluted drainage waters from the mine heaps and rock waste heaps of the Chervonograd Central Mining Plant into soils, surface, ground and underground waters. The negative impact of the heaps is caused by the high level of fault tectonics and fracturing of the bedrocks, the flat surface of the area. The influence of technogenic objects on the atmospheric air quality is analyzed. The main causes of the atmospheric air pollution are stationary sources of pollution. Technogenic objects have a significant impact on the quality of the the atmospheric air. The main role in the structure of pollutants belongs to sulphur anhydrite, carbon and nitrogen oxides, dust and soot. The amount of pollutant emissions into the atmospheric air from stationary sources of pollution for Chervonograd and Sokal districts has been analyzed according to the data of the Main Statistics Office in Lviv region. To prevent further deterioration of the ecological situation, it is recommended to form flat heaps, their reclamation and landscaping with the obligatory covering of the surface with a layer of neutral rocks, to keep measures to prevent burning of heaps. To stabilize the situation and to prevent further contamination of soil, surface and underground waters, the stable network of observations on the state of the geological environment, systematic geological and environmental monitoring should be carried out.
Prospects for increasing the mineral resource base of the Lvov-Volyn coal basin are associated with the development of new areas and large horizons. One of the possible directions is the construction and operation of mining complexes within the fields of the South-Western coal-bearing region. In terms of the grade composition at the Tyaglov deposits, gas, gaseous fatty and fatty coals prevail. It has been proven that gas coal is suitable for coking. At the Lyubelya deposit, there are fatty, coke fatty and coke. Coking coal accounts for almost half of the deposit's reserves. The reserves and resources of coal in the region are estimated at more than 2 billion tons, which are twice the residual reserves of the industrial part of the basin. It is of great importance to study the layers v03, v04, v2, v4, v43, v54, v56, v6 and n06, related to the lower coal-bearing subformation of the basin. Prospects for the integrated development of ABL resources associated with the gas content of the coal-bearing strata. Deposits of the Lvov-Volyn basin can, to a certain extent, be considered as complex gas-coal. The Southwestern coal-bearing region and deep horizons of the basin are especially promising.
On the basis of morphological analysis and detailed studies of lithological-facies composition and formation conditions of coal-bearing deposits the investigations of the lower part of Carboniferous deposits of the Lviv-Volyn Basin of south-western edge of the East European Platform were conducted. In particular, the available geological material was analyzed; the initial conditions of Carbonic coal-forming (Late Tournai – beginning of Late Visean) were studied and positions of the lower boundary of the coal-bearing formation were grounded; the availability of commercial coal-bearing potential (thickness of coal seams 0.6 m and more) of the lower part of Carbonic was studied; commercial coal-bearing potential of the Visean and the lower part of the Serpukhovian stages of the lower subformation of the basin was detected; the influence of intraformational and epigenetic washings and other factors that caused the formation and changes of the lower part of the coal-bearing formation, the morphology were investigated; the possibilities of commercial development of coal seams of the lower horizons were grounded. The most promising areas for searching commercial coal seams and the plots with workable thickness in deposits of the lower coal-bearing subformation were singled out for the extension of commercial coal-bearing potential and determination of the directions of searching and prospecting for promising coal deposits of the basin. It was noted that within the bounds of such areas (the Kovel area, the Bubnivska area, the Busk field and other) a continental regime was formed for a long time, and in the conditions of the marshy near-sea lowgrounds with a developed river system and dismembered paleorelief the periodical peat accumulation occurred that caused the formation of commercial coal seams. Reliable prediction of the mining-geological conditions for the development and the assessment of the commercial usability of the coal seams of the lower part of Carbonic deposits in the whole territory of the basin and within the limits of acting mines should ensure the stable development of the Lviv-Volyn Coal Basin.
