Fifty four schizophrenic patients, diagnosed a s per Research Diagnostic Criteria, were studied for the imn~unoglobulin profiles. The patients were given neuroleptics and the influence 01' neuroleptics on serum immunoglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM wds assessed by comparing the pretreatment and post-treatment immunoglobulin levels. A significant elevation of IgG levels was found in paranoid schizophrenics alter neurolptic treatment. IgA and IgM showed no alterarion The etiological implications are discussed.
Pharmacodynamics is the science which deals with the physiological effects of drug on the body. A drug after reaching the blood circulation is transported to its target which may be a receptor or an enzyme which the drug agonizes or inhibits. This causes a response which can be measured and are known as biomarkers. Mathematical methods are then used to describe their temporal profile and further, to predict the effect at different doses, or help in design of further studies. This chapter deals with basic aspects of pharmacodynamics such as targets; types of actions; biomarkers; and a variety of mathematical models and methods.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
