The influence of coactivators, namely, alkali metals, on the luminance, spectral characteristics and defect composition (by thermoluminescence curves) of green luminophor CaS : Ce obtained by solid phase synthesis, is considered. The use of sodium and potassium is shown to increase the efficiency of cathode luminiscence from 8.5% to 20% and 15%, respectively. This is due to the effect of self-compensation of the activator (Ce) and coactivator impurities changing the amount of calcium sulfate intrinsic defects.
