Concentrations of the trnce elements iron. cobalt. nickel. copper, zinc, cadmium, and lead were measured in samples collected from the waters of the Gulf of Sr. Lawrence. Cobalt, cztdmii~m, and lead occurred at or beIow rhe delection limits of the analytical method. The mean concentrations of nickel, copper, and zinc were 0.4 rgl-'. 0.6 figl-' and 1.8 rgl-l respectively, and there was no evidence that local conditions influence their distrihution. The distribution of dissolved and colloid:tl iron is related to dilution and precipitation processes which occur as fresh and saline waters are mixed. The particulate iron distribution is largely governed by water circulation patterns and settling.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
