The grouper is one of the coral fishery commodities with high economic value. One of the members of the Serranidae family is the yellow-edged lyretail (Variola louti). In Sibolga waters, this fish was caught by traps and handline. The exploitation of yellow-edged lyretail in Sibolga waters was carried out continuously. Therefore, it was necessary to take good management measures to maintain the sustainability of this fish. This study was conducted in Sibolga from April-December 2016. This study aims to get information about population parameters, size distribution, and growth patterns of the fish in Sibolga waters. The size distribution of the yellow-edged lyretail caught was 24-41 cm, with an average length of 31.57 cm. The weight of the yellow-edged lyretail caught ranged from 200-680 g. The mean weight was 395.53 g. The growth pattern of the yellow-edged lyretail is negative allometric. The growth equation for a yellow-edged lyretail was Lt = 48.55 (1 – e-0.1 (t-0.7806)). The value of length at first captured (Lc) = 31,99 cm. Natural mortality (M) = 0.42/year, fishing mortality (F) = 0.50/year. The exploitation rate = 0.55/year, it means the exploitation rate of the yellow-edged lyretail in Sibolga waters slightly exceeds the optimum
This paper aims to describe the Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) fisheries in Indonesia and its relation to sustainable fisheries management. On tuna fishing, FADs are widely used as a tool to attract fish. FADs uncontrolled development is feared to have an impact on the sustainability of fish resources. We found that most of the fish caught around FADs are still juvenile. Deployment FADs can also interfere with the swimming pattern of tuna resources. This is negatively affecting the sustainability of tuna resources. However, from the social and economic aspects, FADs provide significant benefits for fishing communities. The Government has imposed regulations on FADs but not yet implemented. The objective of SDG's in the management of tuna fisheries associated with FADs can be implemented through the application of RFMO regulations. Findings from this paper can be used for policy recommendations for the management of sustainable FADsfisheries. , 0 (2018) E3S Web of Conferences
Bigeye tuna (BET), yellowfin tuna (YFT) and skipjack tuna stocks in the Pacific Ocean, in general, are underfished. However, according to Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) who is mandated to assess the fishing impact on tuna and bycatch, the fishing impact on BET juveniles (including from Indonesia) were identified as high level impact. Productivity-susceptibility analysis (PSA) was used to assess the risk of tuna and sharks. The objectives of this study were to identify the types of tuna fisheries operated in Indonesias water (FMAs 713-715) which harm tuna and sharks species. Result shows that tuna was mainly caught by purse seine, pole and line, and longline. Purse seine fishing has a higher impact than the pole and line and longline fishing. Blue shark, hammerhead shark and silky shark in particular whale shark were at risk due to purse seine fishing, without proper management. Information regarding their niches and seasonal migrating patterns are required for further studies.
