Solution polycondensation of furanic dihydrazides with different bridging groups, in conjunction with terephthaldehyde or isophthaldehyde, gave high yields of a novel series of furanic polyacylhydrazones with high molecular weights. The polymers were characterized by solubility tests, viscosity measurements, 1 H and 13 C NMR, FTIR spectroscopies and thermogravimetric analysis. The polyacylhydrazones obtained had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.52-1.21 dL/g, and were easily dissolved in common polar solvents. The glasstransition temperatures of these polymers were recorded between 201 and 232°C. Decomposition temperature for 10% weight loss all occurred above 352°C in nitrogen atmosphere.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
