Incidence of and contributory factors in postintubation laryngeal edema were determined in 7875 children under 17 years of age. Data were assembled in the manner of a prospective study. With an overall incidence of 1 percent, children between ages 1 and 4 were most susceptible. Excessive size of the endotracheal tube was suspect in half of the cases. Other factors that increase trauma to the larynx while an endotracheal tube is in place showed significant correlation to the total incidence of postintubation laryngeal edema. No tracheostomies were required.
This study investigates workers' favoured rotation types by their age and compares means between subjective and actual scores on productivity, quality and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The subjects of research were 422 assembly line units in Hyundai Motor Company. The survey of 422 units focused on the workers' preference for 11 different rotation types and subjective scores for each type's perceived benefits, both by the workers' age. Then, actual scores on production-related indices were traced over a five-year period. The results suggest that different rotation types lead to different results in productivity, product quality and MSDs. Workers tend to perceive job rotation as a helpful method to enhance satisfaction, productivity and product quality more so than the actual production data suggests. Job rotation was especially effective in preventing MSDs for workers aged under 45, while its effects were not clear for the workers aged 45 years or older. Practitioner's Summary: This research presents appropriate rotation type for different age groups. Taking workers' age into account, administrators can use the paper's outcomes to select and implement the suitable rotation type to attain specific goals such as enhancing productivity, improving product quality or reducing MSDs.
The purpose of this study is to identify the types and features of job rotation being operated in a motor company. The types of job rotation have been classified according to the range of rotation and its cycle. Also, the features of the favorable rotation types were examined by the worker's age and their types of tasks. The results show that workers prefer broader ranges and slower cycles of rotations as they age. Moreover, older workers tend to show an increase in the preference of participating in job rotations. The result of this study is expected to be applied as fundamental data to job design.
Constant velocity (CV) joints have been widely used for modern vehicles. The sealed grease of CV joints must provide low friction and wear protection for the lifetime use of the vehicle. Grease performance affects the vibration and noise level in the vehicle. Vehicles that have traveled long distances may suffer mechanical and thermal overloads, thus causing the grease to degrade due to changes in its physical and chemical properties. In this article, the grease degradation phenomenon in CV joints is investigated by collecting grease samples from both tripod joints and Birfield joints in actual vehicles that traveled various ranges of distance. In order to analyze the property changes of grease, grease penetration and oxidation induced time are measured using a penetration meter and infrared (IR) spectrometer, respectively. Where oxygen induced time (OIT) is the point that the oxidation occurs in grease. The performance variations of grease are investigated by measuring the friction and wear using linear-oscillation (SRV, Schwingung (oscillation) Reibung (friction) Verschleiss (wear)) test machine as well as the four-ball wear tester. Degradation of properties as well as performance in CV joint grease due to physical and/or chemical changes is identified.
Objective:This study aims to analyze job satisfaction and accident prevention according to job rotation system types in a motor company. Background: The study of a motor company's job rotation system has come to attention with enhancing productivity, preventing musculoskeletal disorders, and improving quality. Method: In this study, a survey was conducted to show job satisfaction rates according to job rotation systems. Also an investigation was done regarding industrial accidents and previous workers who are receiving treatment for musculoskeletal disorder over the last five years. Results: The job rotation system in this study has been carried out by voluntary decision of workers. Out of the job rotation types, the medium rotation complexity type had high job satisfaction whereas in a high or low rotation complexity type, which many workers prefer, led to less number of accidents and days of sick leave. Application: The results of this study are expected to be a fundamental data to job design.
