Although the courts have played an important role in recent decades, restricting and changing judicial policy on a variety of issues, Brazilian judicial system was simultaneously labeled "dysfunctional." Regarding the perception and evaluation of the functioning of justice, despite the increase in judicialization, "people still identify as an instrument with many flaws, in particular they see it as slow, expensive and exposed to external interference." In order to respond to this scenario, discussions about the necessary reforms in the public service emerge in literature and academia. In this way, the debate about the impact of the implementation of innovation in the Brazilian Judicial Branch is justified, so that we can find solutions that can correct the deficiencies of the system and improve the perception of society regarding the functioning of Justice. Innovation does not only have positive aspects. Leadership and society need to consider the possible difficulties resulting from radical changes in public processes and services. For example, the implementation of electronic court proceedings has increased levels of work and pressure of lawyers and judges, resulting in loss of quality of life and health problems. Moreover, innovation is a result of partnerships and efforts within the State apparatus, and the continuous development of individual and organizational skills, as well as the development of a culture conducive to innovation and change.

Muitas pesquisas têm sido conduzidas sobre a definição e evolução do tema inovação organizacional, como também sobre o impacto deste tipo de inovação no desempenho organizacional. Considerando as deficiências na prestação de serviços pelo Poder Judiciário brasileiro, como o grande número de processos a cargo de uma estrutura administrativa insuficiente, observa-se as possíveis vantagens da adoção e implementação da inovação organizacional na prestação de serviços jurisdicionais. Por isso, além de explanar sobre a inovação organizacional, exploramos o tema da inovação na gestão pública brasileira, e em específico, na gestão do Poder Judiciário. Desta forma, pretende-se, analisar a possibilidade da inovação organizacional contribuir para melhoria dos serviços prestados pelo Poder Judiciário.
