IntroductionAmidst an increase in long-term survivors after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation allo-HSCT , there has also been an increase in bronchiolitis obliterans BO , a lung lesion of chronic graft-versus-host disease chronic GVHD .1 The only curative therapy is lung transplantation, unfortunately solid organ transplantation after allo-HSCT is associated with a high likelihood of the development of advanced immunodeficiency. 2 This increases concern for the development of post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorder PTLD . There are very few reported cases of cadaveric lung transplantation CLT after allo-HSCT in Japan. Although there is potential to reduce or even terminate immunosuppression with living-donor lobar lung transplantation using the same donor as for allo-HSCT, it is difficult to achieve this with CLT. An increase in the number of cases of CLT after allo-HSCT for BO is expected; therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the complications associated with PTLD.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
