The objective of this research was to know whether there is a significant effect of Text Twist Game toward students' English vocabulary mastery at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah academic year 2020-2021. The research methodology applied was quasi experimental design. In this research, the population was the tenth grade students of MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah. The sample consisted of two classes, namely experimental class consisting of 18 students and control class consisting of 18 students. In experimental class, Text Twist Game was used to teach vocabulary while in control class was applied translation technique. The treatments were held in 3 meetings for each class. In collecting the data, the instrument used was in the form of multiple choice questions which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument was given in pre-test and post-test. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS to compute independent sample t-test. Based on the data analysis computed by using SPSS, it was obtained that Sig.= 0.000 and α = 0.05. It means Ha was accepted because Sig.< α = 0.000< 0.05. Therefore, it was concluded that there was a significant effect of Text Twist Game towards students’ vocabulary mastery of English of the tenth grade students at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah.
This study is aimed at improving students’ speaking skill through Two Stay Two Stray Strategy. This study was a classroom action research. The subject of the research was the students of class X MIA-1 at SMA Teladan Sei Rampah consisting of 32 students. The research was conducted in two cycles consisting of three meetings in each. The instruments for collecting data were speaking test, observation sheet, diary notes and questionnaire. Based on the speaking test results, students’ scores kept improving in every test. On the orientation test, the mean score was 39.5. There were no students gaining score ≥ 75. In the first meeting of Cycle I, the mean score was 43. There were no students gaining score ≥ 75. In the second meeting, the mean score was 47.3. There were no students gaining score ≥ 75. In the third meeting, the mean score was 49.36. There were no students gaining score ≥ 75. In the first meeting of Cycle II, the mean score was 57.5. The number of students gaining score ≥ 75 was 5 (15.6%). In the second meeting, the mean score was 72.78. The number of students gaining score ≥ 75 was 20 (62.5%). In the third meeting, the mean score was 82.30. The number of students obtaining score ≥ 75 was 30 (93.75%). Based on the observation sheet, diary notes, and questionnaire, it was revealed the learning process ran well. The students were active and enthusiastic in learning. Thus, Two Stay Two Stray Strategy can improve students’ speaking skill
This study dealt with persuasive strategies in @1000tenda Instagram Post. The objectives of this study were to describe and to find out the dominant technique and strategies of persuasive used in @1000Tenda Instagram Post. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected from @1000tenda Instagram Post. After the data analyzed, it was found out 6 types of persuasive techniques and 3 types of persuasive strategies used in @1000tenda Instagram Post. The most dominant persuasive techniques used was suggestion and the most dominant persuasive strategies used was phatos.
The purpose of this research was to find out whether introductory videos in YouTube have effect on students’ speaking skill. The research was conducted using experimental research design. The population was the students of grade X at SMKS Muhammad Yaasiin Sei Lepan. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. X TKJ 1 was selected as experimental group and X TKJ 2 was selected as control group. Each class consisted of 26 students and the total sample was 52 students. Research instrument to collect the data was speaking test with the criteria of pronunciation, fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary. During the treatment, experimental group was taught using introductory videos in YouTube while control group was taught descriptively. The data obtained namely mean score of post-test in experimental group was 83.46 while 55.0 were the mean score of post-test in control group. Both groups mean score were analyzed using t-test formula. It showed that t-observed value was 11.05 and t-table value was 2.008 with df=50. By comparing both value, it was known that t-observed was higher than t-table (11.5>2.008). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The research concluded that introductory videos in YouTube significantly affected the students’ speaking skill.
This study discussed the speech function in SMS broadcast. The objective of the study was to find out the types of speech function and the dominant type used in SMS broadcast. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The sources of the data were taken randomly from the SMS broadcast in TELKOMSEL collected from December 2018 until May 2019 and there were 25 SMS broadcast. The data were classified based on the types of speech function. Based on the findings, it was found that they were 58 speech function occurred such as Command (19 or 32.76%), Statement (25 or 43.10%), Question (2 or 3.45%), and Offer (12 or 20.69%). The most dominant type of speech function was Statement. This result showed that the most dominant type occurred type was due to the fact that the provider (TELKOMSEL) should deal with the customers’ demand to provide them goods or services or the customers should follow the program provided by the service provider.
