Availability of good skill seasonal climate forecast will be very useful for farmers to assist them to tailor their cropping strategies to the forecast so that the climate risks can be minimized or avoided. This study aimed to identify type of relevant climate forecast information for potato and chili farmers of Pengalengan. The study was done through interview with 60 farmers. The study reveals that the most important climate information required by farmers is the onset of rainy season and then followed by amount of rainfall, and number of rainy days during the seasons. About 75% of farmers said that they need the information at least one month before planting to enable them to prepare better planting strategy. For potato farmers, they expect that they can get information on the onset of rainy season around August. However, the increase in farmers' capacity to use seasonal climate forecast should be followed by supporting policies or regulations or resources to maximize the benefit of using the forecast, such as price policy, and good storage facility to accommodate surplus production resulting from changing planting strategy.
The agricultural sector is a sector of the economy that is still the flagship in various regions in Indonesia, especially Soppeng regency. The area of Soppeng hills is approximately 800 km2 and is at an average altitude of 200 m above sea level, and has no coastal area. The utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) promises resource management and modeling, especially quantitative models, to be more accessible and simpler. GIS is an efficient and effective way to know the characteristics of a region’s land and its development potential. Land suitability is the suitability of land for a particular purpose of use through the determination of land value (class) and land use patterns connected to the territory’s potential. It can be attempted more targeted land use along with its sustainability maintenance efforts. The spatial analysis involves modeling, testing, and interpreting model results to extract or form new information from a collection of geographic elements. This research will be carried out for 12 Months (1 year) through 4 stages. The research aims to identify land use’s suitability in the analysis of agricultural land suitability using geographical information systems in Soppeng regency area.
The proportion and scale of humans in the building are one of the invoices in shaping the beauty and effectiveness of the function of the building. In architecture, there is a golden ratio as a reference for calculating the proportions of a shape. While in Indonesia, especially in Java and Bali, there is a traditional measurement method for developing a building, using body anatomy measurements. This study uses the Golden Ratio and Traditional Measurement methods to analyze the dimensions of the prayer room at the Great Mosque in East Java with case studies of the Lamongan Great Mosque, Tuban Great Mosque, and Gresik Jamee Mosque. The results obtained from this study for the dimensions of the existing prayer room with the largest percentage approaching the golden ratio are the prayer room of the Great Mosque of Lamongan (82%), and the smallest is the Jami Gresik Mosque (61.8%). While the dimensions of the prayer room need adjustments to be more effective in meeting the human scale in performing prayers, traditional measurement methods that approach modern measurements use "kilan" and "hasta." From these results, it is hoped that in the future, mosque planning can pay attention to the proportions and dimensions of the human scale, both with modern and traditional measurements, which are the local wisdom of the local culture.
