Novel N-thiazolo-1,3-oxathiol-2-imines are synthesized by reaction of a-haloketones with potassium thiocyanate-silica gel. It is thought that the reaction occurs through conversion of the a-haloketone into the corresponding thiocyanate which then undergoes acid-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization to yield a cationic intermediate. Subsequent reaction of this intermediate with another molecule of the a-thiocyanatoketone and a second cyclization then gives the N-thiazolo-1,3-oxathiol-2-imine.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
