185 186 J . A. NISSIMwhich had daily injections of 11.25 mg. Fe/kg. subcutaneously as 0.3 per cent. Fe solution, the total iron given being 0.17, 0.28, 0.5 and 1.0 g. Fe/kg. ; two guinea-pigs received 0.17 and 0.2 g. Fe/kg. intraperitoneally. The histological technique was designed to preserve the plasma in the heart and large vessels, so that the state and concentration of circulating iron could be studied. The best results were obtained with Cappell's techniqiie of immersing the animals whole in 10 per cent. formol-saline for 24 hours and injecting the pleural and peritoneal cavities with the fixative. The iron was stained by treatment with 4 per cent. potassium ferrocyanide and the Prussian blue showed best when sections were counterstained with carmrtlum. Eosin was found t o mask diffuse iron staining in tissues.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
