Six complexes of the type Cu(qo), have been prepared, where qoH represents one of the following : 4-chloro-2-nitrosophenol, 4-bromo-2-nitrosophenol, 4-methyl-2-nitrosophenol. 5-methoxy-2-nitrosophenol, 1 -nitroso-2-naphthol, and 2-nitroso-1 -naphthol. The properties, magnetic susceptibilities, and electronic. i.r. and mass spectra of the complexes have been investigated. The complexes are probably polymeric in the solid state. and may be dimeric in solution; but they each form a 1 : I adduct with pyridine, Cu(qo),,py. These adducts are monomeric in solution and presumably contain five co-ordinate copper.OUR recent studies of chelate compounds,l particularly well established 3-6 that 2-nitrosophenols are tautothose formed from oximes,2 have led us to investigate meric with the monoximes of ortho-benzoquinones. the complexes of metals with 2-nitrosophenols.The chelate compounds formed by replacing the proton in this tautomeric system by a metal can be represented

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
