A number of organic compounds representing several different classes have been adsorbed on binary mixtures of commonly used adsorbents. .Measured B values indicate that adsorption is either representative of the mixture, in which case the Rf value varies with percentage composition, or, adsorption is characteristic of one component of the mixture while the second component serves as diluent. With mixtures of boron oxide and silicic acid an unusual interaction took place resulting in an adsorption strength higher than either of the pure components and selective toward amines.
University o f Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark.Paper-strip and paper-sheet chromatographic methods have been developed to separate the porphyrin aggregate of a California crude oil into several groups. The first two groups are characterized by spectra of the etio type, in which peak I11 (532 mp) is stronger than peak I1 (565 mfi). Peaks I (620 mp) and IV (500 mp) are displaced toward longer and shorter w-ave lengths, respectively, in groups 1 and 2. The other groups have phyllotype spectra; peak I1 is stronger than peak 111. The wave length of the main fluorescence band changes about 2 m p toward shorter wave lengths proceeding from group 1 to 6, in line with the changes in the absorption spectra.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
