We present the first reported case of traumatic aniridia as an isolated injury after blunt trauma to an eye that had phacoemulsification through a corneal tunnel. This case provides insight into the properties of the self-sealing corneal tunnel and possible advantages that it may confer on the eye.
The use of intracameral vancomycin (20 microg/mL) and gentamicin (8 microg/mL) at the time of cataract surgery had no significant effect on macular thickness or visual function postoperatively. Overall, 31% of eyes showed an increase of 15 microm or greater in central retinal thickness. These patients had significantly reduced contrast sensitivity.
The long-term risk of glaucoma following deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty using the manual dissection technique appears to be low. Ocular hypertension after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty is infrequent and can be controlled on topical medication alone.
Globe perforation by the second peribulbar injection JL Ball et al
663reported case where the use of a nasal decongestant has been linked to the development of bilateral AACG. Although the exact mechanism of action remains uncertain, it is likely that absorption of the contained sympathomimetic agents through the nasal mucosa (as has been reported for cocaine 7,8 ), aggravated by the patient sitting in a darkened room to relieve his photophobia, was the trigger factor in an, albeit low, hypermetropic patient to produce bilateral AACG. We would suggest that the packaging of such products should alert patients (and their doctors) to this risk.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
