The term "Marginal Field" takes on a new perspective in the Arctic.Recoverable reserves of over 300 million barrels (a major field by most standards) and sustainable oil production rates on the order of 100,000 barrels per day are required to justify a field development. Proper conceptual design assures that final economic assessment does not cut off a potentially good investment and eliminate a much needed national energy resource. Economic analysis of arctic production installations demand a full consideration of all reasonable development options. This paper discusses the options to consider and sugges ts methods to reduce the options for final conceptual selection of an optimum economics facility design. It then reviews the final assessment of the economics for a marginal field development.
