The authors present their US findings in 24 patients with proved complicated midgut malrotation: volvulus in 18 and occlusive Ladd's bands in 6. All the 24 patients have had US examination prior to surgery. Contrast examinations were performed in only 9 patients, always after US and before surgery. The sonographic "whirlpool" pattern of the superior mesenteric vein and mesentery around the superior mesenteric artery was detected in 15 of the 18 patients with midgut volvulus, and was best seen using Doppler color. Embryological signification of midgut malrotation is discussed.
Percutaneous embolization of aneurysmal bone cysts with alcoholic zein should be considered a reliable alternative to surgery, especially in cases with a difficult surgical approach or cases of postsurgical recurrence.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of MR cholangiography in showing the biliary tree in neonates and infants and to show preliminary applications in a pediatric population. SUBJECTS AND METHODS. MR cholangiography was performed with T2-weighted turbo spin-echo sequences (8000/300 [TRITE], six or eight excitations). The study included seven patients with suspected bile duct disorders and 10 control individuals.
In our study, ultrasonography is a sensitive examination for the diagnosis of occult elbow fractures in children. When the radiography and ultrasonography are both normal, the possibility of fracture can be rule out definitively, which reduces the need for immobilization, follow-up and treatment costs. The findings of this preliminary study should be validated with a larger prospective study.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
