Low-temperature nuclear orientation experiments on radioactive 56 Mn ions implanted into insulating, antiferromagnetic crystals of MnCl 2 •4H 2 O and CoCl 2 •6H 2 O are reported. In MnCl 2 •4H 2 O, comparison of the ␥-ray anisotropy of the 56 Mn nuclei with that of 54 Mn, doped into the sample during growth, showed that both the 56 Mn and 54 Mn spins felt a very similar hyperfine field. The site occupancy factor in a simple, two-site model was deduced to be 0.96 Ϫ0.07 ϩ0.04 . In CoCl 2 •6H 2 O, the average hyperfine field for the implanted 56 Mn was significantly less than that for 54 Mn and corresponded to f ϭ0.53Ϯ0.10.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
