The composition and phase constitution of a compound layer developing during gaseous nitriding was investigated at 853 K for three commercial steels (AISI 120, 4340 and 1090) and Armco iron. The compound layers were characterised by light optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electron probe microanalysis. The formation of the compound layer occurs along two distinct sequences: adc9de and/or a(h)de 2 dc9de 1 . The preferred sequence depends mainly on the chemical composition of steel and on the nitriding potential. SE/491Professor Ratajski
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
